THE Seasiders saw off the Stags to move into the quarter finals of the LDV Vans Trophy thanks to a scoreline that flattered Blackpool's performance at Field Mill.

A brace each from Neil Mackenzie and Brett Ormerod created a 4-0 score that was rather harsh on Pool's division three opponents.

Although you would never have guessed the score after the first 10 minutes.

Pool had started the game with five changes to the squad that beat Chesterfield on Saturday, including the return of Phil Barnes between the Seasiders' posts.

However it was Mansfield who started much better and pinned Blackpool back in their own half for the first half an hour.

Pool's passing was woeful and the home side were allowed several early corners to put pressure on Steve McMahon's edgy defence.

But the referee bailed Blackpool out after 32 minutes when he awarded Pool a very generous penalty decision. Stags keeper Michael Bingham was alleged to have brought down Pool winger Martin Bullock but it did look like the keeper had got the ball rather than the man. Neil Mackenzie wasn't going to complain and clinically slotted the ball home for the opening goal.

The second half started similarly with Pool on the back foot for the opening quarter of an hour. But gradually Steve McMahon's found their way back into the game and just after the hour mark found themselves 2-0 up. Once again it was Neil Mackenzie who scored, cleverly lobbing the ball over the keeper for his 2nd of the match and third for the season.

With being two goals down, Mansfield's task was made even more difficult when Brett Ormerod was brought on with 20 minutes remaining.

And the Seasiders top scorer didn't let anyone down and two typically cool finishes killed of the game and gave Steve McMahon a 4-0 win to take home to Bloomfield Road.
