A NOSTALGIC advertising executive is gearing up to go back to her school days after tracking down through the internet an old friend she hasn't seen for 34 years.
Fifty-four-year-old Carol Mabberley, who works for The Preston Citizen, had been wondering what had become of her old pals when she was told of a website that was right up her street.
Carol Mabberley, from Bishops Way in Penwortham, had been feeling nostalgic and wondering what had become of her old pals, when she was told of a website that was right up her street.
The www.friendsreunited.co.uk site helped her find the email address of Roy Mitchell who she hadn't seen since 1967.
Now Carol, from Bishops Way in Penwortham, is hoping to meet Roy early next year. She said: "I grew up in Doncaster, called Carol Mercer, but moved to Preston 30 years ago when my husband got a job for BAE Systems. I have lost touch with my Doncaster friends, but when I saw Roy's name on the internet site I couldn't believe it.
"Roy and I went to the same primary school and we hung around together when he was at college as I was going out with a boy in his band called the Road Runners. Roy was the singer and my boyfriend, Ivor Jones, was the bass guitarist."
Roy now works as a freelance cartoonist living with his family in Manchester and he is still in a band, called The Cadillacs, who are due to make an appearance in Ingol in the new year.
Roy said: "It was an absolute shock when Carol contacted me -- I was so thrilled, although it took me some time to make the connection. At first she just put that the email was from Carol and left a couple of clues. We were emailing to and fro while I was figuring out who she was!
"We have all been friends from when we were kids and then Carol and I met later when I was 17 although she wasn't my girlfriend, she was Ivor's."
Roy often thought about his old friends and it has been a dream of his to meet up with them and relive the old days.
He said: "I have always been a very nostalgic person -- I still love and play the same music I did then and my kids are always telling me that I live in the past.
"I am hoping that Carol can help me remember some of the things we got up to -- I have got a bad memory and I could do with someone to help me fill in the gaps."
