A WOMAN who was said to have shoved a glass in a neighbour's face has been cleared by a jury.

Susan Tuke walked free from Bolton Crown Court after a jury acquitted her of the unlawful wounding of Ian Black in Telford Crescent, Leigh.

Tuke said she had been drinking a glass of sherry when she answered the door to Black, who had come to complain about remarks she made about his daughter.

She told the court that during a struggle between herself and Mr Black on her doorstep, the glass must have broken and accidentally cut Black's chin.

When he had been cut, Mr Black punched Tuke so hard in the face that he knocked her tooth out, leaving her traumatised and with no recollection of the fight.

Tuke, 36, now of St James Street, Farnworth, denied unlawfully wounding on December 5 last year.

A teenage witness said she saw Tuke and Mr Black slapping and punching each other on the doorstep and when Tuke tried to go back inside her house, Mr Black grabbed her arm and dragged her back to the doorstep.

Tuke was holding a glass in her left hand and as Mr Black grabbed her arm, she heard the sound of glass smashing.

Mr Black reeled backwards and shouted for people to get an ambulance, claiming she had cut him.

He later told police he thought she was going to hit him again so he punched her in the face and left to get help.

He was taken to hospital where he received stitches to his chin and inside his mouth.

When interviewed by police, Tuke she said she couldn't remember anything other than having an argument with Ian Black.
