A GROUP of young people from Roman Catholic churches in Blackburn has visited an 18th-century chapel where priests used to hold Mass in secret in bygone days.
Lee House, near Longridge, was the venue for youngsters from St Joseph's St Theresa's and St Antony's parish, where a special youth programme helped them learn more about resolving conflict and creating a more peaceful world.
The young people took part in a range of challenging activities led by Father David Featherstone, a priest based at St Joseph's, and parish youth workers.
The historic house used to be a regular stopping-off point for priests returning from France, and local people would be notified that Mass would be celebrated secretly, the signal being washing hung out to dry.
The youth group meets regularly each Friday at St Joseph's and young people aged 12 and upwards who are interested in taking part in activities should contact Fr Featherstone on 01254 675534.
