A BUILDING firm has launched an inquiry after one of its subcontractors was put in hospital following a incident outside a pub.

Police said Andrew Vickery, 30, was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary with head injuries after being found unconscious outside the Black Bull Hotel, in Old Langho Road, Old Langho, last Friday night.

A spokesman said he was discharged on Sunday and later dropped his police complaint so the matter is no longer being investigated.

A spokesman for Fairclough Homes today said: "We are aware of an incident at the Black Bull Hotel between two subcontractors and are currently carrying out internal inquiries."

She said she could not comment further as the incident happened outside of work hours.

Police said the injured man was one of a group of colleagues at a private function at the pub -- arranged by Fairclough Homes for the site manager -- as a thank-you for the hard work staff had put in on a nearby site in Old Langho.

Police said a toilet window at the pub was smashed from the outside, which showered one of the men with glass.

He went out of the pub to find the instigator and was said to have punched the wrong man -- Mr Vickery -- in error.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene by which time the eight men had left the premises.

They were later stopped on the A59 and one man arrested although has since been released without charge.

All the men are thought to be from the Blackpool area.

The landlord of the Black Bull Hotel was today unavailable for comment.
