TWO wonderful goals gave the young Clarets reserves side an excellent victory against a far more experienced Blues team at Turf Moor last night.

With the first team squad not returning home until after 4am yesterday morning, it was always likely that manager Ronnie Jepson would have to rely on young players for the Avon Insurance League game.

And facing a side including players of the experience of keeper Ian Bennett, defenders David Holdsworth and David Burrows and midfielder Graham Hyde, as well as star striker Andrew Johnson, the game was a good one to win.

The Blues had taken the lead in the first half when a mix up between keeper Luigi Cennamo and defender Earl Davis gifted the ball to Carlos Ferrari, he slid a pass to Tony Capaldi who could not miss from five yards.

It had been an entertaining game with chances at both ends, Bennett saving well from John Williamson and Mark Rasmussen and Cennamo matching those efforts to deny Ferrari and Christophe Grondin.

But Bennett had no chance with the two strikes in the space of two second half minutes that secured another win for Jepson's side and maintained their unbeaten run under the new manager.

The first was simple individual brilliance as winger Brad Maylett cut in from the left wing and unleashed a stunning right foot shot that flew past Bennett's left hand and into the top corner.

If that was down to one man, the second was a fabulous team effort, a picture postcard goal.

Mark Rasmussen, Williamson and Anthony Shandran combined with a series of smart passes and a clever dummy before Wiliamson's low cross into the box was given the finish the move deserved by Shandran.

Simply superb and a goal worthy of winning any game, as it turned out to do.

Both teams brought on a number of subs as the match drew to a close, the most notable being the Birmingham number 15, none other than Marco Randrianantoanina.

His arrival brought one of the biggest cheers of the night for the announcer who had a decent go at pronouncing the unpronouncable.

It is a safe guess he is known as Randy by his team mates.
