A SEVERE fire which started in the frying range, rapidly spread throughout the whole ground floor of the Ava Bite chip shop in Dale Street.
The resident of the first floor flat above the shop had to be evacuated after staff raised the alarm on Sunday (Oct 28) at 11.15am..
The flat was badly damaged by smoke. The adjoining lock-up shop and pub were also affected by the spreading smoke.
It took 14 firefighters 30 minutes to bring the fire under control, using six breathing apparatus, one foam jet and one hose reel.
