A 22-year-old man died after a road accident just yards from his front door.
Flowers left by mourners poignantly mark the scene near where Robert Huyton, of Cross Street, Atherton, was tended by paramedics after being involved in an accident with a white Vauxhall Astra while on his way home from a night out.
Police said Mr Huyton was returning home at about 1am on Saturday. He was being helped by a friend and said to have been lying in the middle of the road when the collision happened at the junction of Cross Street and Elmfield Avenue.
Mr Huyton, who suffered severe head, leg and chest injuries, was taken to the Bolton Royal Hospital, but later died.
Simon Christopher Baxter, aged 33, of Atherton, is due to appear in court on Monday charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident, failing to report an accident and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Police also questioned a 25-year-old man in connection with the incident, but later released him without charge. Out of bounds: Police tape cordons off the scene
