CLAYTON'S over 55 ladies won the British Veterans Cross Country Relays at Darlington on Saturday.
Val Lawson, Janet Ryan and Kitty Garnett spearheaded a fine club effort which yielded a total of four medals.
The over 35 team of Anna Kelly, Andrea Barraclough and Sue Middleton clinched silver after Anna set the second fastest time of the day.
Meanwhile the men won bronze medals in the M40's and M60's. Paul Brannon, Graham Cunliffe, Brian Horrocks, Mark Aspinall, Ian Greenwood and Tony Chew made up the M40 squad while Stuart James, Ross Jaques and Ted Orrell were the successful M60's.
Gale Fell Race KEN Taylor of Rossendale and Jane Smith from Todmorden Harriers were winners in the 35th and final Gale Fell Race at Littleborough.
Ken was the winning over 50 while Jane was first lady veteran. Steve Clawson of Rossendale led the East Lancs challenge in eighth spot as Thornton Taylor and Pete Lyons took second places in the M40's and M50's respectively.
Grace Biddle, 12, of Pendle was first girl in the junior race. Dale winners ROSSENDALE Harriers fielded three winners in the second round of the Red Rose Cross Country League at Bolton. Diane Flemming was first F45, while in the men's race Thornton Taylor won the M40 category and Pete Jepson took the M55's. Hyndburn AC were represented at the series for the first time with Callum Fitzpatrick their highest finisher, second in the under 13 boys race. Philip Hayton beat Callum in his first cross country for Burnley and Danielle Walker took the under 13 girls race by a clear minute helping the Burnley girls to team honours. Snowdonia best JEANNETTE Coleman's second place in the Snowdonia Marathon was her best ever performance. The Chorley Harriers veteran stopped the clock at 3:18:02 to finish just six minutes behind Kath Drake. The Harriers had an outstanding day with Dave Lee first M55 in 3:15:23 and John McDonald celebrating his 60th birthday with third in his new age group. Another of the12 strong party, Glyn Woodward also ran the Seven Sisters Marathon the day before. John Swift from Chorley AC was 1st M60 in 3:29:51 and Blackburn Road Runner Anne Harwood took second in the F55 grouping in 4:50:54. Duathlon champs THE Blackburn Duathlon, promoted by Blackburn Road Runners, has been confirmed as the venue for the 2002 North West Regional Championships. The provisional date is October 6. The club is also organising a three race series of four mile trail races at Witton Park next summer.
