NEIL Tattersall celebrated his call-up for the North of England cross country team with another comprehensive win, this time in Sunday's Accrington 10K Road Race.
Pendle's new recruit blasted round the difficult course in 31:44, the third fastest time in the history of the race, to register victory by a minute and a half over Clayton Harrier Andy Stubbs.
Neil last won representative honours as a junior when he ran in Brussels, and his reward for an outstanding last six months is another trip to Belgium to run in the Fortis Cross Cup in Ghent this Sunday.
Selector Robbie Wood said that Neil has not been forgotten since his junior days and he has been tracking his progress.
He added: "I've identified him as an up and coming talent in the North."
Also chosen is the former Pendle man Lee McCash, who is currently living in London.
Leading lady at Accrington for the second year was Rossendale triathlete Jacqueline Moppett, but she can thank helpful race officials for allowing her to run.
After mixing up the start time, she arrived at the start in her car as the runners were lining up. Returning the trophy to a startled starter as they set off she was given special permission to run without a race number.
Completely unfazed by the drama, she won by nearly two minutes.
The team trophies both returned to the same cabinets as Clayton were the leading men and Darwen Dashers took the ladies race.
All Clayton's counters took top five placings with Stubbs, second in 33:10, being backed all the way by third placed Andrew Hartley and Mark Theaker who was fifth.
For good measure the club had a fourth top ten finisher Lee Passco in eighth, while highest for organisers Accrington Road Runners was seventh placed John Wieczorek.
For the Dashers ladies, in form Zoe Braithwaite and Sue Corsini were both inside 45 minutes to take third and fourth places while Jacqueline Shaw rounded out the winning team.
There were some remarkable performances in the higher age groups, where three over sixties finished inside 42 minutes.
Darwen's Don Ashton was a narrow winner from Rochdale Harrier Dave Edge and Ted Orrell from Clayton.
Over 65 Bill Atkinson wasn't far behind either coming home in 42:34. Chorley Harriers won one title with 10th placed John Chaplin taking M45 honours and there was success for Red Rose Road Runners with M55 David Aspin and F40 Karen Bain. Norma Smith of Blackburn Road Runners won the F55 class.
