BIG-MONEY flop Kevin Davies today insisted he has 'nothing to prove' ahead of tomorrow's showdown with Rovers at St Mary's.
Davies will come face-to-face with his old club for the first time since he went back to Southampton two years ago.
But, after a disastrous spell at Ewood which left his career in tatters, the former England Under 21 international is adamant the only person he wants to impress is himself.
"I don't feel I have a point to prove to Blackburn, more a point to prove to myself," said Davies.
"I'm out of the team at the moment and I'm working hard in training to get back in.
"I just want to prove myself more than anyone that I'm a good player and can score goals in the Premiership.
"I didn't have the happiest of times at Blackburn.
"There were a lot of things going on behind the scenes, and besides, it was a long time ago.
"But what happened to me at Blackburn has made me a stronger person.
"At the time, it was a great move for me, but it didn't work out and I was lucky enough that Southampton kept the door open for me and I came back here."
Signed by Roy Hodgson for a club record £7.25 million, Davies was hailed as one of the brightest young strikers in England when he moved from the Dell to Ewood in a blaze of publicity in June 1998. But, plagued by fitness and health problems, he never settled in East Lancashire.
He mustered just two goals in 14 unhappy months with Rovers.
Now two years on, the 24-year-old frontman is still battling to recover from that nightmare.
But he insists tomorrow's game hasn't taken on any extra significance, even though he is preparing to face his old club for the first time since he quit.
"To be honest, it doesn't mean that much to me that Blackburn are back in the top flight," said Davies.
"I'm pleased for the players that are still there from my days at the club - guys like Garry Flitcroft, Damien Duff, David Dunn - and it's a good club with a good set-up."
