A BAKER from Radcliffe has monopolised the confectionery world in more ways than one by making better Chorley Cakes than they do in Chorley!
And Gary Newman (39), whose family business operates from Turks Road, has earned a place on the brand new Lancashire edition of the world famous board game, Monopoly, thanks to his delicious cakes!
Newmans of Radcliffe takes the traditional Trafalgar Square spot on the game board, meaning players will "Advance to" Turks Road if they pick up the right "Chance" card.
Mr Newman said: "We were approached by the makers of the game because they said they'd heard we make delicious Chorley Cakes.
"Apparently they had publicly made a promise to the town of Chorley that they would get representation on the latest Lancashire Monopoly and after taking soundings from the public they approached us."
To celebrate, Mr Newman and his workers have baked what they believe is the world's biggest Chorley Cake.
"It weighs 45lbs and is 41 inches in diameter and just about fitted in the oven," laughed Mr Newman, who intends to raffle it for a local charity.
