BACUP secured a place in the third round of the Worthington Challenge Trophy with a comfortable win over higher league opposition.
The NWCL Division Two side should have won more convincingly than Jason Lanns' second half strike but manager Brent Peters was delighted with his side.
"In the past we have underachieved but all the lads had a good game," said the Bacup chief.
Bacup did survive an early scare when a Nantwich player got the better of Gussepi Loppecelo and the Bacup defender pulled him down for a penalty.
However, Bacup keeper Adam Potts was equal to the task.
That was the spur Bacup needed and after that they created the clearer openings. Neiuh Mackenzie hit the post while Lanns and Stuart Farnell both missed chances.
Then on 78 minutes, a quality cross from Ian McClelland found Lanns who stopped the ball dead and turned, finishing with precision.
Vinny Pattison could have made it easier for Peters on the bench when he stormed through but was denied by the Nantwich shot-stopper, Lanns was one on one with the keeper but again was stopped while in injury-time Karl Stanley was denied.
RESULT: BACUP...1 NANTWICH...0
BACUP are at home to Castleton Gabriels tomorrow night.
