COLNE'S hopes of causing a cup upset at Holt House were dashed by Division One Abbey Hey but John Lister's men put up a brave fight in their Worthington Challenge Trophy second round clash.
In fact, Lister's men took the lead after just 13 minutes with the goal of the game from George Craddock.
He controlled the ball on his chest on the edge of the area before turning and hitting a great shot to make it 1-0.
"We started well but then we allowed them back into the game and their First Division experience told," said Colne chairman Dave Blackwood.
"We weren't outplayed by any stretch of the imagination but they took advantage of our mistakes and punished them.
"It was a typical cup tie and both keepers pulled off some terrific saves.
Abbey Hey's Sean Pickering cancelled out Craddock's opener in the 38th minute and he grabbed his second 10 minutes into the second half to give his side the advantage.
On 72 minutes Scott McLean made it 3-1 and appeared to have killed the tie off but Colne had other ideas.
Paul Files pulled one back three minutes from time when he reacted first in a goalmouth scramble but it proved too little too late to stop Colne from going out.
RESULT: COLNE...2 ABBEY HEY...3
