School motto: St Wilfrid's CE High School sees education as an integral part of the mission of the Church to proclaim God as creator, Christ as redeemer and the Holy Spirit as inspirer of all that is good in human living. The main purpose of the school is to provide an excellent education, both academic and social, in a Christian context to enable students to grow up to take their full part as citizens of this world and the next.
Number of pupils: 1,242 aged 11 to 16; 245 in the sixth form.
Where do they come from: St Wilfrid's draws its pupils from Blackburn with Darwen and across East Lancashire, and has 85 feeder primary schools.
Star pupils: These include Jason Lobo, Great Britain international middle-distance runner, Tariq Mohammed, founder of Time Computers and Neil Pickup, world arm-wrestling champion. The school is proud of the many other students who have gone on to success in many fields, and the increasing numbers who are going on to university and other forms of higher education.
Something to brag about: The school is about to embark on a £14.5 million new building project which will set it on one site. It is due for completion in two years.
