DARWEN new boy Matt Swailes scored two goals in an entertaining nine goal NWCL Division Two clash against Daisy Hill.
Boss Steve Wilkes has snapped up former Chorley striker Swailes from NWCL Division One side Salford City and, after 36 phone calls to try to get the player signed in time, he went straight into the side for last night's game.
And he made an impression after 35 minutes scoring Darwen's second goal.
Craig Shaw had opened the scoring after seven minutes when Scott Grundy found Chris Shaw who slotted it home.
Top scorer Paul Baker, Matt Anderton and Lee Webb all had chances to increase the lead but it was Swailes who came up with the goods.
Baker's shot was pushed out by keeper Mark Somner and it fell to Swailes to tap it home.
Two minutes later and it was 3-0, Andy Walsh set up the unmarked Baker who headed home.
Wilkes demanded a clean sheet at half-time as his side - now christened 'the entertainers' - have struggled to keep out the opposition all season.
And, as the boss was still walking out after half-time, Darwen made it four when Baker this time set up Walsh who fired home a right foot shot.
But Wilkes had barely sat down when Steve Harris's free kick hit the wall and looped over Lee Purvis for Daisy Hill's first.
It was 4-2 when Brooke Astle found Neil Melling. Purvis should have caught the cross but Melling headed home from three yards.
Baker made it five with his 15th goal of the season.
Somner's clearance fell to Baker 35 yards out and he headed it into the empty goal from distance.
Baker could have had a hat-trick but his shot was saved and Daisy Hill went straight down the other end, Jimmy Dixon got past three defenders and scored their third.
But two minutes later, Darwen were back in charge when Swailes robbed Ady Veitch and he made it a cracking 6-3.
RESULT: DARWEN...6 DAISY HILL...3
DARWEN are at home to Padiham on Saturday looking for their fifth win in six league games which, if results go their way, could move them up to fourth place in the league.
THE club had their biggest crowd of the season on Monday night when 2,000 people turned up to the bonfire at the club!
