WITH the recent proposals by the government to increase the number of speed cameras across the country, and given that Lancashire is planning to be in the forefront of this scheme and the fact the police can keep revenue from speeding fines, will we see more policemen on the beat in the town centres at no further cost to the public?
After all, now that the police have this considerable bottomless pit of cash, it is time for something to be given back to the community in the form of a reduction in council tax, considering that Burnley has one of the highest council tax rates in the country.
