MAYOR of Wigan Cllr John E Hilton took part in two Remembrance Day services.
As Wigan borough's civic leader, the Golborne councillor took part in the morning parade in Wigan town centre then laid a wreath at the afternoon service in his own village.
A service was held at the Barn Lane war memorial mid-afternoon after marchers had walked through the streets of the former coal mining community.
In Leigh the procession gathered outside the town centre college building and marched along Railway Road to Market Street, Lord Street, Charles Street for a service in the war memorial gardens in Church Street.
After a service the procession returned to the Town Hall Square for the salute prior to dispersal.
Leigh Royal British Legion stalwarts then retired to the town's Conservative Club to toast fallen comrades along with marchers who had accepted an open invitation to join them and sample branch hospitality.
Atherton's procession paid tribute at two memorials, at the Baptist church in Lee Street 10.30am and at town's memorial at the Leigh Road/Hamilton Street junction opposite Atherton cemetery. In Tyldesley, marchers left the town centre Market Square to pay their tributes at the war memorial in the town cemetery in Hough Lane.
In Hindley the parade left Cross Street memorial for a service in St Peter's Church and Lowton's service was at St Mary's where wreaths were laid by representatives of local organisations.
At Platt Bridge wreaths were laid at the war memorial and marchers held a service at St Nathaniel's Church then gathered at the Scout headquarters.
