NERVES will be setting in today as the owners of the Cemetery Chippy in Colne prepare to make their final bid to win the much sought after title of Fish and Chip Shop of the Year 2001.

Val and Les Scott were due to go head to head today with seven other regional finalists in London.

Les was expected to make a presentation to the judging panel at 1.15pm to say why they should be crowned the fish and chip king and queen.

But they will have to wait until 12.30pm tomorrow to hear the results of the competition.

Les said: "We were runners-up in last year's regional final but this year we are even more determined to win the competition, that would certainly put the Cemetery Chippy and Colne on the map."

The competition finals, organised by the Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish), will take place at the Cafe Royal in London.

Seafish chose the Cemetery Chippy as a regional winner because of its consistently high quality of fish and chips but also because of the excellent hygiene controls in place, the cleanliness of the premises and how attentive staff are.
