BURNLEY'S youth team players swapped match action for a run on the training pitch at the weekend.
Saturday's game against Tranmere Rovers was called off because they were involved in a Youth Cup game and so a number of the club's promising young players managed to have a well earned break after playing lots of games this season.
Despite the lack of first team fixture last week, Terry Pashley's squad still provided a number of players for Ronnie Jepson's reserve side that played at Sheffield United and again they acquitted themselves well.
The fact that Jepson was happy to rely on the likes of Earl Davis, Joel Pilkington and Andrew Leeson is a credit to their progress and the dismissal of the club's number two keeper Luigi Cennamo offered a rare opportunity for teenager James Salisbury to impress.
He was ultimately beaten by a late header but had done well to make a great save from the free kick that saw Cennamo dismissed.
Both Davis and Pilkington had to come off injured and they were replaced by fellow youth team players Andrew Waine and Matthew O'Neil, again underlining the role they have to play in the more senior side.
Meanwhile the Clarets youth team will travel to Maine Road to take on Manchester City in the AXA FA Youth Cup on Sunday December 2.
The match will kick off at 2pm and it is hoped that there will be a good sized crowd to watch the game.
That weekend the Clarets first team has to travel to Crystal Palace and fans looking for a game closer to home might take up Stan Ternent's suggestion from last week's AGM that the current crop of young players are worth seeing in action.
Tickets are £3 for adults and £1 concessions.
