A COUPLE of Clarets supporters' clubs are calling on fans to raise the roof at Turf Moor and help to roar the team to promotion.

Paul Smith from Boundary Clarets has been disappointed with the atmosphere for home games this season and he said: "There seems to be some apathy from a lot of fans.

"On Saturday there were 14,000 home fans but they were outsung by a few hundred from Portsmouth.

"It's amazing because this is our best season for 25 years and I don't think the players or the coaching staff could do any more.

"I have been following the team since 1973 and I have never known Turf Moor so quiet.

"And it is not just me saying it, a lot of people are reckoning it is getting worse and worse, game by game.

"I do think it is a problem throughout football, all the grounds are quieter and I think our away support this season has been superb.

"But at home games I sit down and you can see all the people there with their arms folded.

"There was a bit of noise when we took the lead against Pompey but when they equalised it went quiet again. We should have got behind them with 'Come on Burnley.'"

Phil Miller from Accrington Clarets was equally baffled as he admitted: "I can't put my finger on it.

"I know there are rising costs and so people are picking and choosing games but when they are there there is no reason to be quiet.

"You can't fault the team or the management for what they are doing, they are playing some good stuff.

"There is just a lack of atmosphere and it takes a lot to get them going. On Saturday I thought the Pompey fans were phenomenal."

But Clarets defender Ian Cox admitted he had not noticed the drop in decibels at home games this season.

"To be honest I always focus so much on the game I don't notice the crowd," he said. "I have always thought we get good support at home, the Burnley fans are great.

"It must have been a bit frustrating for them on Saturday because we had a great percentage of possession but we couldn't break them down. The fans want excitement."

But Miller and Smith believe the fans can help drive the side forward by cranking up the volume and they hope that will start tonight against Watford.
