CHILDREN made a special act of remembrance at a hilltop war memorial led by the Minister of Weir, the Rev Neil Hepworth.
Pupils from Northern Primary in Bacup walked from the Burnley Road school to the memorial above the Deerplay pub.
They played an active role in the service, reading special prayers and poems prepared in school.
Mr Hepworth led a remembrance service at the church's home at the Weir Hotel on Sunday and parishioners placed a poppy cross at the memorial.
He said: "It was the first time I have been to the memorial and it was very cold! You can get some fantastic views from there and it is reported to be one of the highest memorials in Britain.
"I have been told you can see to Blackpool Tower on a clear day, but unfortunately it was overcast."
Among the 150 people present were teachers, parents and members of Bacup Rotary Club, who provided a poppy wreath for the school and stewards to walk the children safely to the memorial.
