PARENTS' fears of a tragic accident have been heightened following a road accident at the weekend.
A campaign was launched weeks ago for more safety measures after a series of 'near misses' by vehicles on children walking to Clayton-le-Woods Primary School, Back Lane.
Mum Lynn Ward, who headed the campaign, witnessed the accident on Saturday.
Mrs Ward, of Glenmore, Clayton-le-Woods, said: "The road had to be closed. There seemed to have been a number of cars involved."
It occurred on busy Sheep Hill Lane, near the junction with Back Lane, close to the school.
Mrs Ward added: "This road has been getting busier and the speed of the traffic has increased. It has confirmed our worst fears, if it had been when children were going to school it could have been tragic."
