FOR a moment picture yourself in 'Lib Dem' land. What a fantastic place that would be. We would all have the benefit of hindsight. The project to connect homes in Blackburn's Whitebirk area to the Internet would not have run into problems with NTL (LET, November 6) because everyone would have had Coun Charles Mills's benefit of hindsight and ironed out the problems before they occurred.

The drains in Darwen would have had the benefit of hindsight and prepared themselves for an unforeseen torrent of rain, thus dealing with Coun Paul Browne's complaint that when it rains the ground gets wet. What a world this would be - no problems because in Lib Dem land you can solve the problem before it occurs. Imagine that -what joy.

What a shame the reality is very different. If you live in a Lib Dem land council area, you will on most occasions be paying far more in tax for the same level of services. Furthermore, in Lib Dem land the place would be overrun by asylum seekers and plagued by people on benefit. Worst of all, we would all have to pay for yet another layer of bureaucracy and interference in the form of Area Committees.

I am tired of hearing Liberal Democrats claiming something should be done after the event has happened. If for instance, Coun Mills tells the council they should have foreseen the problems with NTL, then why did he not flag them up? After all, isn't that what we as taxpayers are paying him to do?
