I WAS talking to a friend and work colleague Derek Holt last week and he is involved with Enfield Football Club who are currently riding high in East Lancashire League Division One.
I asked Derek if he thought his sided could win the title but he said their chances were being hampered by Hyndburn Borough Council not giving them a pitch of their own to play on week-in-week-out.
The club keep getting moved from ground to ground which I think is a shame as they have been loyal servants to the Accrington leagues for more than 20 years.
I find it hard to see why the council cannot give Enfield their own pitch to use every week.
It could be beneficial to to everyone concerned as I am sure Derek and his people would tend to the pitch and look after it.
The council could charge a nominal rent and the club and relevant leagues its teams play in would get stronger as more players would join the club.
The proof is there to see -- just look at Whinney Hill FC.
They got their Burnley Road ground and have turned in to a nice little set-up and compete in the West Lancs and East Lancs leagues and Accrington Combination.
It's about time the Accrington leagues were strong again.
20 years ago I played in the Inter League sides who wept the board around this area and the local Combination was very strong.
It would be good for the town to have teams competing in the higher levels of football.
