They say lightning never strikes twice but I bet for one horrible moment Langho Juniors under 11s manager Neil Isherwood thought it had.
It was just a few weeks ago that one of his players Craig Gornall broke his leg in a cup clash against Lammack Juniors.
On Sunday, the two sides met again in the league and in the opening minutes Langho skipper Chris McRaith picked up a nasty leg injury.
The game was delayed for 30 minutes and an ambulance was called.
Thankfully, Chris's injury was no more than a bad twist and not the break everyone feared.
So I wish Craig and Chris a speedy recovery and hope to see them playing in the not too distant future.
Incidentally, I started reported on the Islington Boys v Blue Star match on the adjacent pitch until Lammack and Langho got under way and ended up reporting on both at the same time!
It's good to see that some footballers never forget their roots.
Whistle Blower columnist Neil Yates was refereeing the Conference League game between Leigh RMI and Dover at the weekend and spotted this in the match programme.
The programme included a pen profile on Leigh RMI's Darwen-based central defender Neil Durkin.
When asked the question who is the best manager he has played under, he neglected his current high-achieving boss in favour of Tony Walmsley of the Blackburn Combination's Alex Hotel.
Some news from the Blackburn Sunday League newsletter and the league is reminding all clubs that nominations for Young Player of the Year are now being accepted.
A point worth noting for all clubs concerned is that you can actually vote for a player from your own team. Contact the league secretary with your nomination (all players must be under 21) explaining why they deserve the award.
Meanwhile, John Haydock may be trawling through the record books again to see if anyone has drawn more games than Longshaw.
Longshaw have now drawn four on the trot (including the 2-2 draw with Guide featured in Sport Extra a few weeks ago) and I sure John will let us know if their record books have been rewritten.
The last time these two side met it was in the plush surroundings of Ewood Park.
On Saturday Blackburn and Darwen schoolboys and Liverpool under 15s meet again and what will surely be a wind swept Pleasington Playing Fields. Blackburn will be looking to avenge that cup final defeat when the face Liverpool in the English Schools Cup.
