WILLIAM Bassett scored a stunning long range goal of David Beckham proportions to turn this match on his head. - Blue Star 7 Islington Boys 1

The Blue Star defender couldn't have picked a better goal to open his scoring account with a first time shot from the halfway line to catch out Islington keeper David Fielding.

The goal put Blue Star in front and spurned them on to a fine win.

But it was Islington, in their first season of competitive football, who got off to a flying start and dominated the opening 10 minutes.

Daniel Henderson gave them a deserved lead after Michael Baldwin's initial shot was well saved by Kurtis Dellafield.

And Blue Star had Dellafield to thank for keeping them in the game in the early exchanges as he made good saves to keep out shots from Baldwin, Henderson and Matthew Williams.

Blue Star survived the early onslaught and drew level after Luke Gornall used his pace to escape down the right before lifting a shot over Fielding.

Bassett's bullet then gave Blue Star the lead before Gornwall's excellent cross was nodded home by Jordan Salter.

Islington nearly pulled a goal back when Henderson's wonderful long range drive was tipped on to the cross bar by Dellafield.

After the break, Blue Star introduced Andy Greenwood and he was soon on the scoresheet with a fine effort from the edge of the area.

Greenwood was in the thick of the action again and set Gornall with the simplest of tap-ins to make it 5-1.

Fielding made some fine blocks to keep Blue Star at bay while Toby Barker made some timely tackles. Goal scorer Henderson also kept up the fight despite the scoreline.

But Blue Star soon added to their total and Greenwood grabbed his second before Sean Corran completed the scoring with a dipping long range effort. BLUE STAR: Kurtis Dellafield, John Redmond, William Bassett, Ben Singleton, Luke Gornall, Sean Corran and Jordan Salter. Subs: Jake McKay, B Langford and A Greenwood

ISLINGTON: David Fielding, Toby Barker, Michael Baldwin, Lee Piddington, Daniel Henderson, Adam Hughes, Usman Hussain, Matthew Williams, Christopher Cameron BLACKBURN AND DARWEN JUNIOR LEAGUE UNDER 11S (BLUE) Langho Juniors 0 Lammack Juniors 0 The goalless thriller SCORELESS it may have been but this was a wonderful advert for junior football.

Both league leaders Lammack and second-placed Langho produced some free flowing football that was only bettered by some dogged defending.

The match was held up after Langho's Chris McRaith picked up a nasty leg injured in the opening minutes and was taken to hospital.

Luckily it was not more than a twist and sprain and not a repeat of the broken leg suffered by team-mate Craig Gornall in the cup clash between the sides just two weeks ago.

Langho's Alex McCormack came closest to breaking the deadlock midway through the second half when his sweetly struck shot hit the post but rebounded to safety.

In fact, both sides were confident enough to have a go from long range and Lammack keeper Jordan Clarke showed a save pair of hands to hold on to Sam Menelaou's long drive.

Lammack's Lewis Wilson then flashed a shot just wide after a good lay off by Jordan Grubb.

Danger man Grubb was well marshalled by Joe Rawlinson so Lammack's threat came from else where and Daniel Wilson forced a fine save out of Rob Critchley.

At the other end, Clarke got down well to tip away a good effort from Nathan Catchpole.

In the second half both sides pushed forward and Lammack's Grubb flashed a shot just wide after good build up play by Sam Dixon and Lewis Wilson.

After McCormack's sweetly struck shot hit the post, Catchpole then forced Clarke into another good save. Grubb then fired over the bar and Dixon's low shot was well held by Critchley.

As the action ebbed and flowed, Catchpole headed just over for Langho while at the other end Lewis Wilson forced another good save out of Critchley. In the last minute, Lammack escaped when Menelaou hit the top of the crossbar but the draw turned out to be the fair result in the end. LANGHO: Rob Critchley, Chris McRaith, Joe Rawlinson, Sam Menelaou, Max Aughton, Nathan Catchpole and Alex McCormack

LAMMACK: Jordan Clarke, James Croak, Matthew Riddehough, Michael Hamer, Lewis Ainsworth, Alex Malcomson, Lewis Wilson, Sam Dixon, Matthew Davis, Daniel Wilson and Jordan Grubb
