The Mill Hill striker was given a start and he didn't disappoint as his all action style soon had his band of follower chanting "Oh Thommo!"
And by the time those mates had disappeared in to the warmth of the clubhouse for the England game, Thomas had scored one and made a thorough nuisance of himself up front.
Thomas opened the scoring when he rose unmarked in the area to head home from a corner after 20 minutes.
Speedy strike partner Talbot nearly doubled Mill Hill's lead when left back Ian Cottam showed great skill down the wing to find Thomas whose pin-point cross was fired just over by the striker. Talbot was then denied by a goal line clearance by Bob Arnone after more good approach play by Cottam and Thomas. Belvedere play-maker Steve Butterfield quickly established himself as the main threat to Mill Hill and one superb pass found John Heaton who opted to shoot when he had team-mates better placed.
Butterfield then flashed a shot just wide from range.
But it was the Thomas/Talbot connection that was proving to be the main threat and the two combined to set up Andy Hunt who miscued his first time shot.
Belvedere were getting more in to the game though and first Paul Richards fired just over the bar before John Connell forced a good save out of Ricky Leatherd.
So Mill Hill's second could not have been bettered timed and it was all down to Hunt's persistence as he won the ball in midfield and then chased on Talbot's flick on to beat Joe Riley with a clinical finish.
Just before the break Matthew Wallace just cleared the bar with an acrobatic overhead kick.
After the break, Belvedere got a foothold in the game when Tony Heaton found Arnone who beat Leatherd with a deft flick header.
The visitors were spurred on by their goal and Paul Richards fired just over the bar.
Substitute Tom Durkin then forced Leatherd in to a save at his near post and Mick Whitworth had a good chance to level the tie. But Mill Hill should have extended their lead and Riley made four good saves on his debut to deny Thomas, twice in one-on-one situations.
Belvedere could have nicked a late equaliser but substitute Paul Graham stabbed his shot wide when well placed -- and Thommo enjoyed his moment of glory.
