Chorley 2 Leigh RMI 4
EX-RMI striker Andy Mason threatened to deny the Conference side in the Lancashire Marsden Trophy but it was the Railwaymen who headed into round two with a comfortable 4-2 victory at Victory Park.
Mason departed Hilton Park midway through the last season and it was his goal that cancelled out Ged Kielty's strike to equalise after just eight minutes, the striker poking home from close range after the defence had failed to clear their lines. Midway through the first half, the Unibond First Division side took a shock lead when Mason popped up at the far post to head home after good work from David Lowe down the right flank. Dino Maamria scored twice to put RMI ahead and substitute Andy Heald settled the tie.
