A TWINKLE-TOED seven-year-old from Baxenden has added to her collection of trophies by clinching one Britain's top dance prizes.

Nicola O'Brien, of Shap Close, has her sights set on a future in show business after winning the under-eight rock and roll championship at Prestatyn Pontins last weekend.

The European freestyle and disco championships has been one of the biggest events in the dancing calendar since its inception in 1982, with 800 competitors of all ages taking part this year.

The talented youngster was runner up in a doubles routine performed with partner Natalie Smith, seven, also from Baxenden. Natalie also came second in a solo dancing event.

Nicola also picked up a medal for being on the winning dance team from Sanderson dance and Fitness club, Brierfield, near Nelson where she has been learning her craft over the past two years.

Nicola said: "I like dancing because its my favourite hobby. I want to be a dancer when I grow up."
