A FATHER-of-four, his 18-year-old daughter and another teenager were allegedly all attacked after abuse from a gang of youths, a court heard.

Burnley Crown Court was told how David Trickett , whose family had been plaged by local youths congregating in the doorway of their converted-shop home, was hit over the head with a bottle by Paul Workman so hard that it broke.

He fell and was kicked and punched by the gang as he tried to get up..

After Mr Trickett had been to hospital, a 16-year-old was struck on the side of the neck outside the Trickett family home and the complainant's daughter Joanne was held by the throat and pushed against a window.

Workman, 18, of Swinshaw Close, Loveclough, denies wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, affray and two counts of assault.

Dennis Watson, prosecuting, said in April, Mr Trickett and his family were at their home in Crawshawbooth. The previous night, the front window had been smashed and when he heard noises he went outside to investigate.

He was abused by a gang and Workman emerged from a nearby street with a youth who had a baseball bat.

Mr Trickett was frightened and picked up a piece of wood but was then punched and hit over the head with the bottle by the defendant. He fell, tried to get up and was kicked and hit.

Two of Mr Trickett's sons intervened, police arrived and the group broke up. The alleged victim went to hospital for treatment to a large cut on his head.

Mr Watson said later that evening a 16-year-old was outside the Tricketts' home, where he found a brick which he assumed had been thrown towards the property.
