BACUP defeated NWCL Division One opposition for the second time this season in the first round of the Marsden Trophy.

Brent Peter's side had already knocked Nantwich out of the Worthington Trophy and were comfortable winners over Fleetwood last night.

Jason Lanns struck wide in the early stages before Julian Dowe set up John Garrick who found a space in the defence and fired home on 20 minutes.

Stuart Farnell missed a good chance when one on one with the keeper but it was two on 40 minutes when Shaun Cryer on the left wing passed to Dowe whose diagonal ball found Garrick for his second.

Bacup keeper Adam Potts was called into action in the second half but the Division Two side held firm.

"Adam had some saves to make but we had three excellent chances to score more," said Peters.
