THE brothers Crayston have big plans for Blackburn RUFC although they may have to put them on hold for a season.
The new coaching team of Richard and Phil were hoping to make an immediate impact and guide Blackburn to the heady heights of North West Division One in their first season in charge.
But the players that said were going to come never arrived and a poor start to the season has caused the pair to reassess the situation.
However, both Phil and Richard are confident that their experience in the game will eventually pay dividends for the Ramsgreave Drive club.
Coach Phil, who played more than 400 games for Preston Grasshoppers and 17 times for Lancashire, finally hung up his boots with Blackburn last season.
He said: "If you were to ask me during the summer what our hopes were then I would have definitely said promotion.
"We trained very hard during the summer and were hoping to bring in six or seven new faces to strengthen the squad. We were very confident.
"But the players never arrived and subsequently we got off to a poor start." The club went back to the training ground and a more aggressive and committed approach as seen them win their last two games and climb up to a mid table position.
Phil added: "I reckon that if were to finish fourth or fifth place then I would have to say that it would be a successful season for us."
Richard has joined the club as manager this season also from Preston Grasshoppers were he played first team rugby for 11 years -- earning his county cap in his final year.
He said: "When Phil came here I used to come across and watch him. We're very close likes mates so I was delighted when I was invited to become manager.
"I couldn't think of anyone better to work alongside. We both know each others strengths and weaknesses."
The brothers are now beginning to attract the new players they need to take Blackburn to a higher level.
Andy Ridehalgh rejoined from Sedgley Park while experienced number eight Mike Sword has moved across from Grasshoppers and Richard Sheil has switched codes from St Helens.
So while it may take some time the Craystons are sure they are on the right track.
