EBENEZER Scrooge couldn't hold a candle up to Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council when it comes to penny pinching and depriving the people of the right to earn an honest crust.
I refer to the way they treat charitable organisations which wish to hold sales of any description on their own premises.
Charities may only hold six sales per year, be they jumble sales, fairs, or car boot sales and the council levies a charge for every stall used. But they themselves hold sales every Sunday in Blackburn on the roof top car park.
This is grossly unfair to charities who only want to support themselves instead of holding out the collecting tin and I fail to see the justification for this ruling.
