A LORRY driver who thought his fiancee was cheating on him set a trap -- and then trashed her mother's home after spotting her with another man.

Burnley Magistrates heard how Duane Haythornthwaite, 27, had been gutted after he saw his girlfriend leaving a nightclub with the man and she refused to return home.

Haythornthwaite, of Fountain Street, Burnley, admitted damage and was bailed until November 28.

Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said the defendant had been living with his fiancee Hayley Swierkowski and her mother Sophia at Hurst Street, Burnley, and damaged a lot of property in the early hours.

He made threats and told police it was no good locking him up as when he got out he was going to murder.

Trevor Grice, defending, said Haythornthwaite had suspected Miss Swierkowski was seeing other men and that had been confirmed by friends.

The long distance lorry driver set a trap. He told his fiancee he was going to work but lied. That evening, when she thought he was in "foreign parts," she went out, but the defendant followed her.

Haythornthwaite found Miss Swierkowski with another man and she went off in a taxi with that man after leaving a nightclub. Mr Grice told the court: "They were supposed to be engaged and he was deeply upset."

Haythornthwaite went back to the house he shared with Hayley and her mother, rang Miss Swierkowski and asked her to go back home. He asked her about what he had seen that evening, but she refused to return home. The defendant then damaged the property in a fit of temper.
