AN EXPERIENCED Clarets side took Port Vale to the cleaners with an impressive performance in the Avon Insurance League's Premier Division at Turf Moor last night.

Strike partnership Andy Payton and Tony Ellis were on the scoresheet.

In addition the side boasted left-sided midfielder Alan Moore, who was returning from two months out through injury, plus Lennie Johnrose and defender Graham Branch.

Republic of Ireland international Moore was also among the scorers during his 45 minutes on the field and Johnrose found the net.

And 20-year-old John Williamson notched Burnley's other two goals.

"The scoreline does make it look one-sided," said Jepson.

"And it probably was, but you still have to go out and play the football that ensures the game goes your way.

"The guys really stuck to what we asked of them, the passing was very good and we kept up our standards throughout the whole game."

And Jepson was pleased with a number of performances.

"It was good to see Graham Branch come through another full 90 minutes and he seemed comfortable," said Jepson.

"And we gave a few others a run. Alan Moore didn't seem to suffer any problems during his 45 minutes, Andy Payton did 75 minutes and Tony Ellis did 60 and they will have all enjoyed the run.

"It is good for fitness and match sharpness and all I can say they did did just what I asked of them - but then they are all very good professionals."
