DEFENDING South East Lancs Cross Country League senior champion Anne Powell dominated from the start to lead Leigh Harriers to a treble victory on home ground.

She finished the Lilford Park four mile course well ahead in 25min 15sec to record her second league win -- and was supported by team mates Eileen Castledine, 42nd in 33min 22sec and Marjory Leigh 51st in 35min 21sec.

In the U17s' event, run over the same course, Toni Bowers scored her first win of the season in 31min 10sec, followed by Laura Morris who clocked 31min 51sec in fourth.

Commanding

The third winner was Adele Swanton who took the U15 event. She opened up a commanding lead over the two mile course to win her second league match in 14min 47sec.

Lizzy Heaton was second in 15min 14sec with Amanda Fearnley in 4th in 15min 46sec to give Leigh the winning spot.

Emma Morris ran her best race of the season in 5th, Louise Boardman was 7th and Emma Tonge 17th.

The u13 saw Rebecca Howarth finish seventh in 11min 10sec with Lauren Howarth 14th and Zoe Campbell 23rd for their best team result in the league in fourth.

Thomas Boardman suffered a rare defeat in the boy's U15 race to finish runner-up in 13min 11sec for the two mile course. Alex Urmston was 7th and Mike Goddard 11th to give Leigh second team position.

Leigh's lone competitor in the youths' race was Sam Cooke who continued his improvement. He finished seventh in 26min 11sec for the four miles.

In the seniors John Howarth won his best league place taking second in 34min 1sec.

Other placings were Phil Foster 16th (35-16), Simon Foster 18th (35-22), Jimmy Cooke (37-46), John Indricks (38-14), Keith Boardman (38-25), Andy Arnold (40-14), Duncan McCarrick (43-34) and Steve Ruffley (45-52) to give Leigh fifth team place.
