HEART-THROB balladeer Daniel O'Donnell sat in my bath...

The wish will come true for one lucky punter as the fixtures and fittings at Blackburn's biggest hotel go under the hammer.

The County Hotel, for 30 years a landmark at the western gateway to the town in Preston New Road, is about to be knocked down to make way for a new housing development. And demolition boss John Edmondson is having suite dreams about cleaning up on 100 bathroom suites from the hotel as the bulldozers wait to start their blitz.

Top showbiz and soccer stars stayed at the hotel down the years -- most recently superstar Irish crooner Daniel, who often languished in one of the baths post-performance.

Now, knock-down man John is trading the bathrooms from the doomed County.

And he has turned on the tap to a trading extravaganza by putting up a huge sign advertising "Bathroom suites for sale" outside the building.

He is also getting rid of 100 bathroom doors, 100 fire doors -- and two baby's cots. "A young family has already snapped up one," he revealed.

Meanwhile, a kitchen range and hot-plates has gone to a kebab house in Whalley Range. "And a fireman bought the maple dance floor for his home," he added.

John, who is salvage and reclamations manager with Old Langho-based Ashworth Demolition, said he still had more than 60 bathrooms left. Many are still plumbed into their en-suite rooms.

"People are coming along and choosing the ones they want still in the rooms. We can dismantle them and they can wither pick them up or we can deliver. They get everything . . even the extractor fans," he said.

The suites are just two years old -- "The baths are stamped October 1999 on the bottoms," John added. And they're going, going, going for just £120 each. Definitely a case of suite charity.
