YOU'VE heard of Pudsey bear, but how about Pudsey beer?
That's the name of a brew which bears the name of the Children in Need mascot which is going down a treat at a Bury pub.
Pudsey is being brewed by the landlord of the popular Lord Raglan at Nangreaves, Mr Brendan Leyden.
"We've been brewing beer in the pub for the past two years. We have six regular ones and a monthly special. We brew about 100 gallons for each one," he explained.
"We've produced 100 gallons of Pudsey beer which is also available at the Hare and Hounds in Holcombe Brook and the Kings Arms in Salford."
Throughout this week, the Pudsey beer has been on sale at the Lord Raglan for the standard price.
But today (Fri Nov 16), to coincide with Children in Need, regulars will pay £2 for a pint with half that amount going direct to the charity.
"And for every nine gallons sold by the brewery outside, £5 will also go to Children in Need," added Brendan.
Meanwhile, at Bury Grammar School (Boys), it wasn't so much Children in Need, but Pudsey in need.
For the mascot was "kidnapped" during school assembly on Tuesday (Nov 13) and held to ransom by his captors.
And, thanks to their imaginative fund raising idea, the school has raised a highly impressive £1,500 for Children in Need.
Today, schools, organisations, individuals and others throughout the borough will be hosting numerous events to raise cash for the popular charity.
