IDEAS are being sought for the future of a large building in Morecambe's West End.
The building on Regent Road is empty at the moment but the owners of the building, United Norwest Co-op have given local organisations 12 months to come up with suggestions as to how the building could be used by the community.
A questionnaire is to be circulated shortly via schools, shops, pubs, community groups, health centres, churches and other local points during the next couple of weeks. Copies will also be available from Signposts on Regent Road.
A feasibility study is to be completed by next Summer.
Fiona Gordon, of Lancaster district council for voluntary services, said: "We are delighted that the NorWest Co-op have given us this opportunity to see how the Co-op building can be used to benefit people in the West End.
"Obviously any development is dependent on suitable funding being obtained.
"However, we think that the building has lots of potential to contribute to the future of the district.
"We are keen to involve local people at this early stage, and hope they will join in the consultation exercise and let us know what they would like to see there."
The Late Shop which operates on the ground floor of the Co-op building will not be affected.
