BURY North MP David Chaytor outlined the Government's planned environmental policies during an address to more than 30 local business people.
Mr Chaytor spoke to members of the thriving Bury Business Environment Association (BEA) during a special breakfast briefing at the organisation's Link House headquarters.
A keen and vigorous environmental champion, the MP was invited to unveil the Government's environment plans for its current term in office.
His speech focused on three main environmental issues that he sees affecting businesses, which are all based on the Factor Four principle of doubling output while halving input.
He said the Government's main priority, in order to meet the Kyoto Climate Change commitments, is to continue to promote energy-efficient technologies.
These are through the Enhanced Capital Allowance scheme, the Lightswitch programme and the continuation of the Climate Change Levy.
Mr Chaytor also stressed that the Government is committed to reducing the reliance of the country's transport system on roads, to reduce both pollution and congestion.
And the Bury North MP also stated that the final priority of the Government is to double productivity in business while reducing the reliance on natural resources.
