THE first loan spell of Scottish international central defender Stephen Caldwell is now complete. While he has returned to Newcastle for the moment, we are encouraged that Macca is to speak to Bobby Robson about a new deal in the next few days.
Since our group highlighted public awareness of the need for team strengthening, we are delighted to see that the club has responded in a positive manner with James Pullen signing till the end of the season, Macca seeking to extend Stephen Caldwell's loan, and the arrival of Ian Marshall on loan from Premier club Bolton.
Ian is a welcome addition, providing essential cover up front and in central defence -- the two areas where the squad is exposed at times of injuries or suspensions.
Further good news this week came with Karl Oyston pouring cold water over reports that Steve McMahon had been given permission to talk to Crystal Palace. Such statements eradicate unnecessary rumours and discontent by keeping supporters informed on an ongoing basis. The two new stands are looking better by the day. It was great on Saturday to see the end of Seasiders emerging within the West stand seating.
Unfortunately, our group has to report rumours among fans that the new stands may not open until the New Year as opposed to Boxing Day. These rumours initially appeared about three weeks ago and they seem to be gathering momentum. It would be appreciated if the club could confirm or deny this is the case.
With respect to the development of the South stand, it is our understanding that potential delays in the confirmation of the demolition of Bloomfield Road Bridge by the council could cause serious delays to the south redevelopment. If that is the case, would it be possible to redevelop the East before the South? Again clarification by the club on these two key issues would be seen by supporters as a very positive step.
The committee of Real Progress will soon be undertaking a random consultation of members to ensure our objectives represent their opinions.
