DESPITE being upwardly mobile Coventry City are still looking to recruit as they seek to return to the Premiership at the first time of asking.

Their recent winning form came to an with a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Millwall, but they are now well placed for an assault on the top six slots after something of a false start after their demotion from the top flight.

However, goals are again proving a problem for the Sky Blues this season and the Clarets must beware a strikeforce eager to end their droughts at Highfield Road tomorrow.

Relegation last term had much to do with a return of just 36 goals from 38 Premiership outings and the departures of Welsh internationals Craig Bellamy, to Newcastle United, and John Hartson, now playing a starring role in Glasgow with Celtic, have forced a search for a striker that still continues.

Former manager Gordon Strachan made his pitch by forking out £5million-plus for West Brom's proven front-runner Lee Hughes.

However, Hughes flood of 79 goals for the Baggies has become a trickle since his move across the Midlands to Highfield Road, and he has scored just twice in 10 League starts this term.

Hughes can at least still claim that he is the Sky Blues most prolific striker this term, so scant is the goal return from the frontline.

Former Leicester and Aston Villa striker Julian Joachim has started this season with a whimper, no goals from two League outings, Peruvian Ysrael Zuniga is yet to get off the mark having made just four appearances all from the bench, Honduran Jairo Martinez has one goal from one start and two substitute appearances.

But at least youngster and former Arsenal starlet Jay Bothroyd can match Hughes with two League goals from his 11 outings.

Strachan may have gone but his successor, former Swedish international defender Roland Nilsson, knows it is a problem that needs addressing.

Already Nilsson and his management team of Richard Money and Ray Clarke have been working hard to find the men they want and Clarke revealed that the Sky Blues could soon be ready to make their move with two players identified as the men to help turn City's problem around.

"We have got to make the right decision now of the type of striker that we bring in," said Clarke.

"But it is not always easy to get the type of striker that you want, but I can assure the followers of our club that we are working very, very hard and have identified two possible targets.

"We are working on that at the moment and trying to make sure that we bring quality into the team.

"We want it to be on a permanent basis and make a statement to the fans, who are the most important people right now."
