PAWS for thought during this busy run-up to Christmas and ask yourself if you could give this poorly little puss the best present ever -- a loving home.

Samantha would make a very cuddly, loving and playful little companion for anyone who is willing to show her a bit of kindness and affection.

Sam is a very special kitten who may have a potentially life-threatening disease and is only asking to be given the chance of living life to the full while she still can.

Sadly, Sam's mum had to be put to sleep as she had contracted Feline Infection Virus (FIV) which is the cat form of AIDS.

It is not yet known whether the disease has been passed on to Sam or not, but at present she is a very normal and loving kitten in desperate need of a home.

Christine Ashton from Cat Rescue in St Annes said: "We basically don't know if Sam has the virus or not and are thus treating her as if she does.

"This means that she can have no contact with any other cats or venture outside until she has been tested at four months old. Unfortunately this means she can't play with other kittens and is becoming extremely lonely as the days pass.

"FIV cannot be passed on in any way shape or form to humans or other animals, apart from cats, so it would be okay for her to go to a home with a dog for example.

"However, it would need to be a strong and resilient person to take her on as they may have to face the fact that Sam could have to be put to sleep sooner or later if she has FIV.

"Sam will also be susceptible to many minor illnesses if she has the virus and may need much treatment.

"We have already had a phone call from a generous benefactor who is willing to help with the vets fees that Sam may incur."
