IT is with some dismay that I learned of the demise of Elizabeth Filkin, the Government sleaze-buster.

This astute lady did a good job, perhaps too good. There have been numerous scandals in the government of late.

The BSE crisis, foot and mouth scandal, the examination of the wrong brains that Mrs Becket tried to cover up.

Perhaps it is the government's brains that need re-assessing.

The Geoffrey Robinson affair has again reared its head.

Sleaze will never be eradicated as we have seen in our own town where it seems to flourish unabated.
