MY sincere thanks go to Margaret Robinson of Bury Hospice and her committee members for another superb "Woman of the Year" luncheon recently. There was excellent organisation, delicious food, a wonderful atmosphere and lovely company.
I am honoured to have received the award and hope that I can live up to the title during the next 12 months. I am also most grateful to everyone who has sent cards and congratulations: it has all been quite overwhelming!
A final thank-you must go to Paul Gardner for the great pictures taken at the lunch (and those taken a few days later, when he had me running around Hawkshaw) and Saiqa Chaudhari and Richard Connor for their reports in the paper.
Just to put the record straight, the 103.5 miles record, for women over the age of 50 (referred to in the article) was back in 1992; my most recent record was last year when I ran 92 miles, the best for a woman over the age of 60. It brings my total of British records to more than 20 from as many races.
MARIE CALDWELL,
Bury Woman
of the Year.
