BLACKBURN Rovers today slammed talk of a move by Newcastle for David Dunn.
According to a story in one of the tabloids over the weekend, Magpies chief Bobby Robson was reported to have lodged a £8 million bid for the Rovers super-kid.
However, Ewood chief executive John Williams has insisted Rovers have not received an offer from the North East giants.
And even if they did, he is adamant the 21-year-old is simply not for sale.
"We haven't received a bid off anyone from Newcastle," said Williams.
"But if they had been in touch we would have turned it down flat because David's not for sale, it's as simple as that."
Dunn has fast become one of the hottest properties in the Premier League after a string of impressive performances this season.
And manager Graeme Souness has stressed all along that he wants to build a team around the likes of his young midfielder.
Meanwhile, Souness was delighted with Saturday's point against Liverpool.
The Rovers boss adopted a cautious approach, playing Matt Jansen up front on his own against the Anfield giants. But his decsion was vindicated after Rovers ground out a richly deserved point thanks to a second half equaliser from Matt Jansen.
"You've got to remember they won 3 or 4 trophies last year whilst we've just come up from the First Division so I thought we did very well to get a point," said Souness.
"We got the tactics right and with a fitter Damien Duff we would have beaten them.
"I am not going to be critical of Liverpool. How they play football is their business.
"They have had months of success playing the way they play. I know they have had their critics but I am not one of them and never will be.
"We felt we could not step up against them. They try to lure you out and catch you out with genuine pace.
"We are not going to step out - we are not going to play naive football.
"It might not have been a great game to watch but we got a result."
Souness also opened his heart on the rift that exists between him and Phil Thompson.
"What's gone has gone," he said.
"What I have said in the past is something I stand-by, but sometimes you say things you regret and do things you regret.
"Maybe Phil regrets certain things and I certainly regret certain things in my life.
"He's someone I had some glorious footballing years with and there was no one sadder than me with the way it ended.
"In life there are just some certain things you can't tolerate and that was one of them and I'm not going to say anymore about it.
"I have got too much going on in my life to worry about it."
Sheffield Wednesday are the latest club to be linked with a move for veteran striker Mark Hughes. Owls boss Terry Yorath is a keen admirer of the 38-year-old after working with the former Manchester United star as manager of Wales. But, despite speculation to the contrary, he has yet to contact Rovers with an official approach for the player, who was also a recent target for Stockport County.
Rovers' two Academy sides chalked up an impressive double over Everton at the weeknd. Ian Miller's Under 19s won 1-0 while the Under 17s triumphed 3-1.
