PADIHAM pop wannabe Andrew Derbyshire had his dreams shattered by the public on Saturday night.
Andrew, 19, faced a public telephone vote in the latest round of ITVs Pop Idol after he made it in to the last 50 in the programme's search for a pop star.
His rendition of Bette Midler's 'Wind Beneath My Wings' won praise from the judges, including the spiky pop svengali Pete Waterman. They tipped him to go far in the competition and chose him as one of the two they thought would go through.
But his flamboyant shirt and hairstyle came under fire from the critics, which may have turned the public against him. He did not make it in to the top five and was eliminated from the competition. But that won't deter Andrew, whose family live in Green Street, Padiham, as he said he firmly believes that a future in the spotlight is his destiny.
