POLICE stepped in when peace demonstrators and members of the British National Party clashed yesterday at an anti-war protest in Clitheroe.
About 20 people, some pictured above, turned up to protest against the war in Afghanistan on the steps of the Library.
But plans to march around the town centre were abandoned after members of the right-wing BNP started arguing with protesters.
Police diffused the situation by separating the two factions and no serious trouble was caused. A spokesman said: "There was an incident at the anti-war protest at the weekend but it passed off peacefully."
