A BAD decision caused cost Bacup all three points in their NWCL Division Two clash with Chadderton.

The hosts had dominated the game and were ruing several missed chances but thought they had sealed the win after Karl Stanley had put them ahead.

But Mark Hall was harshly judged to have handled the ball on the edge of the area and Chadderton were given the spot kick which secured them a point.

"I was disappointed with the decision as I felt it was ball to hand," said boss Brent Peters. "But saying that, we should have taken more chances. Their goal led a charmed life."

As early as the fifth minute, Shaun Cryer jinked into the box and he struck a powerful shot which the keeper tipped onto the bar.

Bacup then had to defend a succession of corners but did it well and Jason Lanns did have the ball in the back of the net after good play from Hall and Stuart Farnell but the referee disallowed it for an infringement.

Lanns then had another chance but shot over the bar while the visitors had one first half effort - and that was over.

Bacup took the lead on 51 minutes when keeper Adam Potts struck forward a long kick, it was headed on by Farnell and Stanley raced into the area, beat a defender and crashed home an unstoppable shot.

The disputed penalty then came on 63 minutes but Bacup still had chances to grab it through Stanley and Cryer and they also had a penalty appeal turned down. They almost grabbed the winner in the final minutes when Martin Peters, Hall, Julian Dowe and Lann combined but Lanns' strike hit the keeper and Bacup had to be resigned for a point.
